[Review by Seven] Since ASC was busy, Unlock did this issue alone, and he pulled a big
stunt on comp.sys.ibm.pc.demos: he posted a message saying he hadn't received
a single article, and that he would declare PAiN officially dead if it didn't
get more support. Of course that wasn't true, but several gullible people got
off their asses and wrote something (including me :)) Other subjects include
Jay Newingham, the real-life musician who had ripped music from Unreal,
Basehead and Purple Motion, the new operating system Beos which seemed very
promising back then, and a classification of the different demostyles.
Nostalgia strikes back in several articles: besides another review of an old
PAiN issue, there's Sternone talking about his phreaking days, back when BBSes
ruled the earth, and there's even a rallying cry to resurrect the scroller
effect :) Zthee gives a tutorial on making low-color pictures using 24-bit
tools, the Wacom graphic pad is reviewed, and you can learn about Amiga disk
files and how to use them on PC. The resource subsection has a bit more meat
now, with the announcement of the Scenet database, a bustrip to
Mekka/Symposium2k, and the Swiss Escape party.
The music of this issue if by far my most favourite diskmag tune ever. It's
a bit ambient, but with enough rhythm to keep it interesting. It's repetitive,
but keeps changing slowly, so you can read the whole mag without getting tired
of the music. The 3D outro is rather simple: a large ball fractures the PAiN
background. less.. |
